ArtBike! : Now is the time to start building a creative healthy community!
What is ArtBike!?

ArtBike!ArtBike! is exciting!

It is a street art/sculpture/installation art exhibition, that is open to all and brings creative progressive people together through community, bikes and art!

When is ArtBike!?

ArtBike! begins now. Works are displayed as of February 6th, the First Friday date for February 2009, and it runs through March 1st marking the end of NAHBS.

Where is ArtBike!?

ArtBike!ArtBike! is in galleries in the Mass. Ave. area; and in galleries and on the streets around Fountain Square.

Each participating gallery will receive one handmade, custom painted bicycle from a North American Handmade Bicycle Show exhibitor.

Fountain Square is the headquarters and focus point for the installation art, and we encourage artists to decorate the area with attractive and fun bicycle-themed exhibits. That's right: all art has to have a cycling theme. We rather liked Picasso's Bulls Head.

Then at the NAHBS there will be a 20' x 20' display area for selected contributing artists to show their art in a commercial setting in front of a crowd numbering in the thousands.

How does ArtBike! work?

Gallery owners will receive bicycles to be displayed for the better part of the month of February.

The installation art on the street must be photographed for consideration in the NAHBS. The photos can be sold too! NAHBS and Indiana City Council will receive reproduction rights to these images to promote the show and the city of Indianapolis through magazines and websites. The artist will always receive a name credit.

ArtBike!

At the NAHBS exhibition, 50% from each sale will be donated, in an even split, to two charities/non-profits of your choice in the Arts and Cycling industries. You keep the other half.

Party on ...

Then at 8.00pm, Friday February 27th there will be a super fun ArtBike! party where all artists, bike advocates, friends, media and event helpers will gather to celebrate the unity of ... Art and Bikes!

Venue:
"Big Car Gallery">>>
The Murphy Building!
1043 Virginia Ave.
Indy, IN 46203

"Music!, Dancing!, Raffle!, Gold Sprints!, NAHBS VIP Room!, Art!, Bikes!"

The party will be hosted by NAHBS and 02 Sports Marketing and sponsors include Momentum Magazine.

Check http://www.handmadebicycleshow.com/artbike.htm for updates.

There will be a raffle at this party that will also raise funds for other cycling and art non-profits. Hoosiers Mountain Bike Association for one.

Why is ArtBike! happening?

ArtBike! is an effort to create a community buzz about just how cool it is to be both creative and healthy.

It is a cross-education for two of the most positive and progressive communities in the world!

It will be happening the same month as NAHBS so it is not just a one-night or one- week thing, but a lasting impression on the city of Indy and its neighbors about how awesome a life is when filled with Bikes! and Art!

ArtBike! will be a collaboration of the city, the community, local galleries, NAHBS, artists, bike advocates, visitors and whoever else wants to be a part of creating something to feel good about!

How do we get ArtBike! in motion?
  1. Contact Laura at O2SM and tell her you want to be involved. She'll take your contact info.
  2. Get to work on producing your BikeArt!
  3. When it's finished, send us a picture! With larger pieces we may be able to allow you to leave your art in Fountain Square and along the Cultural Trail. We will have to get this approved with the right folks, but thus far everyone is into it!
  4. We will notify you whether or not your work has been selected to exhibit in the NAHBS show hall.
  5. Come to the awesome ArtBike! party we will be having February 27th! More info will follow.
